Within the company, though, staffers warned the change was having the opposite effect, the documents show. It was making Facebook’s platform an angrier place.

Company researchers discovered that publishers and political parties were reorienting their posts toward outrage and sensationalism. That tactic produced high levels of comments and reactions that translated into success on Facebook.”

😩 Facebooks “pivot to video” virkede ikke engang for Facebook

Fra Nieman Lab:

“In a story published Wednesday, Keach Heagy and Jeff Horwitz detailed how users’ engagement with Facebook started falling in 2017. Turns out that video did not slow the decline, but may actually have contributed to it”

Fra The Wall Street Journal ›››

“Mark Zuckerberg has publicly said Facebook Inc. allows its more than three billion users to speak on equal footing with the elites of politics, culture and journalism, and that its standards of behavior apply to everyone, no matter their status or fame.”

😷 Facebook sletter profiler tilhørende tyske coronaskeptikere

Fra Bloomberg:

“Facebook Inc. has removed a network of user accounts from its core site and Instagram tied to Querdenken, a movement in Germany that opposes Covid-19 measures like wearing masks and imposed lockdowns.”

“Determining whether social media plays a role in worsening partisan animosity is important because political polarization has pernicious consequences. We conclude that social media platforms are not the main cause of rising partisan hatred, but use of these platforms intensifies divisiveness and thus contributes to its corrosive effects.”

😬 Facebook sendte fejlbehæftede data til forskere

Fra The New York Times:

“The data included the interactions of only about half of Facebook’s U.S. users — the ones who engaged with political pages enough to make their political leanings clear — not all of them as the company had said. Facebook told the researchers that data about users outside of the United States, which has also been shared, did not appear to be inaccurate.”

🔐 Facebook styrker krypteringen i WhatsApp

Fra Bloomberg:

“Texts sent on WhatsApp are already protected so that they can only be seen by the sender and recipient. People have been able to back up their messages in the cloud, using Alphabet Inc..’s Google Drive and Apple Inc.’s icloud. But, while WhatsApp doesn’t have access to those backups, Apple and Google potentially do. “

“Ireland’s Data Protection Commission, said on Tuesday it opened two “own volition” investigations into ByteDance Ltd.’s TikTok amid worries about the way it handles its users’ data. The Irish regulator became TikTok’s lead European Union data protection authority in December.”

It’s a hits businessPlatformer grows when it’s publishing good journalism — particularly journalism that takes you inside companies in crisis. The rest of the time, the business is largely static.”

“Now, though publishers said advertisers remain interested in the contextual and first-party products they’ve built — and they themselves are committed to staying the course in offering them — some worry advertisers could shy away from plans to spend on cookieless advertising. “There is a question as to whether or not advertisers are going to pull back,” said Rebeca Solórzano, svp of programmatic operations and strategy at Forbes, regarding the general conversation among publishers.”

❓ Hvad er DMP’ens rolle i en verden uden cookies?

Fra Digiday:

“‘We see this in the briefs we’re getting from marketers […] They no longer want to know what third-party data we can give them access to. They’re asking about the publisher integrations we have — and how they can be used to build second-party data relationships.’

Indeed, deals like this mitigate the loss of third-party cookies because they’re built on first-party data. And DMPs could be central to how this data is shared directly between publishers and advertisers.”

👴🏻 Medieinnovation “udstiller de forældede kriterier for nulmoms”

Fra Media Scale:

“B.T. går all-in på lokale storbymedier.

“El Diario, a Spanish online-only news company, was founded in 2012 with the primary aim of reconnecting society with journalism. The company’s membership programme is built under the premise that journalism is a public service.”

“Intuit’s QuickBooks service is a well-known product in the SMB space. Presumably Intuit reckons that it can sell more services to its existing small business customers. It still feels like a bit of a stretch, but we presume that the eggheads have come to the conclusion that ensuing corporate synergies will more than compensate for the sticker shock that the deal includes.”

Mere fra TechCrunch: Intuit’s $12B Mailchimp acquisition is about expanding its small business focus

Apple is not an illegal monopolist, but its conduct is still anticompetitive. The core of the judge’s verdict is that Epic failed to prove Apple operates an illegal monopoly, in part because it failed to adequately define the market. In wanting a broad ruling that could potentially crack open the iOS platform, Epic overreached, the judge says. But Apple isn’t completely off the hook. “

“People are struggling with information overload […] Firefox Suggest will be a trustworthy guide to finding the best of the web,” siger Selena Deckelmann, der er “senior vice president” for Firefox hos Mozilla.

Som sagt: Store forhåbninger.

😱 Deepfake møder pornografi

Fra MIT Technology Review:

“MIT Technology Review has chosen not to name the service, which we will call Y, or use any direct quotes and screenshots of its contents, to avoid driving traffic to the site. […]

Y is incredibly easy to use. Once a user uploads a photo of a face, the site opens up a library of porn videos. The vast majority feature women, though a small handful also feature men, mostly in gay porn. A user can then select any video to generate a preview of the face-swapped result within seconds—and pay to download the full version.”
