Digitale medier i uge 38 (2022)
🙅♂️ Andre afviser at lukke for Facebook-kommentarer
“The technology cold war is trying to claim its biggest victim: TikTok. The wildly popular social media app is under increasing scrutiny from governments and business leaders around the globe.”

🔎 For ‘Generation Z’ er TikTok den nye søgemaskine
“More and more young people are using TikTok’s powerful algorithm — which personalizes the videos shown to them based on their interactions with content — to find information uncannily catered to their tastes. That tailoring is coupled with a sense that real people on the app are synthesizing and delivering information, rather than faceless websites.”

🤳 YouTube vil gøre det muligt at tjene penge på Shorts
“Now, YouTube will bring ads to Shorts, according to the meeting audio and two people familiar with the situation, who were not authorized to discuss product plans. The company plans to pay creators 45 percent of the ad money, according to one of the people. YouTube creators have traditionally received 55 percent of the money from the ads that play before and during their videos.“

💻 Snapchat ruller web-udgave ud til alle
“Initially launched back in July to Snapchat+ users only, the web version enables users to send messages, conduct video chats and voice calls – basically all the central connection elements of the app will now be available via your desktop PC.”
“YouTube creators often implore their viewers to ‘smash that Like button,’ believing its feedback to be vital to their future success on the algorithm-driven platform. But a new study from the Mozilla Foundation suggests that users who hit the Dislike button on videos to weed out content they don’t want to see are wasting their time.”

“Twitter officially started rolling out Edit Tweet on Wednesday, a feature that lets people make changes for up to 30 minutes after a tweet is posted. It was initially rolled out to a small group—a subset of the subset of users who pay for Twitter Blue, the company’s monthly subscription product.”
“Donald Trump could be back to his old social media antics in just a few months. The two-year ban, barring the former poster-in-chief from Facebook, expires at the beginning of 2023. And Meta, Facebook’s parent company, hasn’t revealed whether it’ll be extending Trump’s virtual exile.”

“Instagram’s testing out another way to protect users from unwanted content exposure in the app, this time via DMs, with a new nudity filter that would block likely nudes in your IG Direct messages.”
⚙ Meta lancerer API til Facebook Reels
“Meta’s looking to help more creators and brands lean into Reels with the launch of the Facebook Reels API, which will enable the posting of Reels clips via third-party video creation apps and social media management tools.
That will complement the Instagram Reels API, which Meta launched back in June.”
“Twitter is expanding access to an opt-in feature that is designed to make its platform more accessible for people who use screen readers. The social network is rolling out an image description reminder to encourage more people to add descriptions to the photos they share. Twitter began testing the feature in July with 10% of users and is now rolling it out to everyone on the platform.”
🤨 Parler køber cloud-firma
“The company, which itself went dark after the U.S. Capitol riot last year, did not disclose financial details of the purchase and the names of investors who took part in the round.
The deal for California-based Dynascale gives Parler access to a cloud services provider with around 50,000 square feet of data center space in the United States.”
Vejledningen kan findes her.

For to år siden ville DR udkomme færre gange i løbet af døgnet.
📉 Tendens: Podcast-episoder bliver kortere
“We then looked at every episode released by podcasts with more than 10,000 listeners per episode and found that the average episode length is 37 minutes. This is only one minute greater than the average across all podcasts, which we found in a previous article to be 36 minutes.”
📚 Spotify lancerer lydbøger i USA
“Starting today, Spotify listeners in the U.S. will be able to purchase and listen to more than 300,000 audiobook titles—making our platform a true all-in-one destination for everyone’s listening needs. And we’re excited to launch audiobooks with a brand-new user interface that’s geared specifically for listening to audiobooks and fits them seamlessly alongside the music and podcasts you already listen to and love.”

🏴☠️ Pirater bruger Spotifys videopodcast til at dele film
“Several TikTok users posted videos within the past week showing how anyone on Spotify could access films, such as Minions: The Rise of Gru, Pinocchio, and Mean Girls. The clips suggest that the TikTokers were as confused by the discovery as anyone else, with captions like, ‘Okay but since when could I watch movies on Spotify?’ and ‘What on earth is happening to Spotify?’
The answer, of course, is piracy: It seems Spotify users are posting full movies through the video podcast tool.”
For to år siden sagde Casey Newton sit job hos The Verge op for i stedet at starte Platformer, der er et af mine yndlingsnyhedsbreve.
The New York Times’ Kevin Roose. Wow.

🌍 Time lancerer platform om klimaforandringer
“Time is launching a sustainability division called “CO2 by Time” that will offer companies tools that go beyond just offsetting their carbon emissions.”
Flere tal peger fremad for nyhedsmedierne, siger professor.“

Det skriver direktør Tav Klitgaard på Twitter.”
💌 Overset over de største nyhedsbrevsbaserede medier
“Press Gazette has listed the biggest newsletter-based publishers in the world and spoken to several about how to build an email-based news business.”
“There is a lingering concern as more and more publishers put up paywalls for subscription revenues – will blocking content have a negative impact on SEO? There are no straightforward answers. ‘The question is less about sacrificing a wall for SEO or vice versa, but more about how you can limit the SEO risks whilst maximizing the value of a wall,’ states a new report from paywall solutions provider Poool. “
“In his blog post, [The EU’s internal market commissioner, Thierry] Breton makes it even more plain that metaverse builders are already subject to EU rules. ‘With the DSA and DMA, Europe has now strong and future-proof regulatory tools for the digital space,’ he writes, pointedly adding: ‘We have also learned a lesson from this work: We will not witness a new Wild West or new private monopolies.'”
