“The issue was caused by a coding error and does not represent any immediate plans to roll out a new ad product, according to Facebook, which said it was limited to iOS devices. The company didn’t say how long the error lasted or how many publishers or users were affected.”
Facebook has been terrible about removing vaccine misinformation. Will it do better with election misinformation?
Facebook Campus – kun for college-studerende
TechCrunch:
“Facebook is getting back to its roots as a college-focused social network. The company announced today the launch of a new social networking platform, Facebook Campus, which offers college students a private place to connect with classmates, join groups, discover upcoming campus events, get updates from their school’s administration and chat with other students from their dorm, clubs or any other campus group.”
Facebook tester Instagram-stories – på Facebook
The Verge:
“Some Facebook users have recently noticed that they can now watch their Instagram stories right from within the main social network app. Facebook has long allowed (and encouraged) cross-posting of Instagram stories to Facebook to help build momentum for its own version of the format — but a new test brings Instagram stories right into Facebook for direct viewing. “
Instagram tester anbefalede “Reels”
Social Media Today:
“Despite seemingly lukewarm initial response to the option, Instagram’s still looking at ways to maximize the usage of it’s TikTok clone functionality, and after adding a new Reels tab to the main screen for users in India last week, Instagram’s now trying out a few more ways to boost Reels exposure, and get more people using the option.”
Wired:
“On Thursday morning, Facebook announced several new policies to wrangle misinformation on its platforms ahead of the November election. Among them: limiting the number of people or groups you can forward a message to at one time on Messenger. For a glimpse of whether that might work—and how well—you needn’t look further than another Facebook-owned company: WhatsApp.”
TikTok
Forstå TikToks algoritme
Axios:
“The code TikTok uses to pick your next video is a large part of what has led the two-year-old company to achieve broad popularity along with a remarkable $20-$30 billion valuation. The key asset is in play as TikTok’s Chinese parent prepares to sell its U.S. operation amid fears about its relationship with China’s government.”
TikTok kæmper for at standse selvmordsvideo
The Verge:
“TikTok says the clip was originally streamed on Facebook and has appeared on other apps. As the TikTok community became aware of the clip, many creators started posting videos warning their followers to look out for an image — a man sitting in front of his desk with a grey beard — and swipe away from the video. Other creators spoke about the most disturbing part of the video being hidden inside more innocuous looking TikToks. A TikTok representative confirmed to The Verge that “clips of a suicide” started circulating on Sunday night.”
TikTok klar med “stitch”-funktion
Social Media Today:
“Stitch allows users the ability to clip and integrate scenes from another user’s video into their own. Like Duet, Stitch is a way to reinterpret and add to another user’s content, building on their stories, tutorials, recipes, math lessons, and more.”
Trump vil ikke udskyde TikTok-frist
MediaWatch:
↓
“Despite ongoing questions about its future, amid negotiations over its sale to a US company to adhere with a US Government order, TikTok was once again the most downloaded non-gaming app in August 2020, according to new data from Sensor Tower, with the short-form video app continuing to gain momentum in more regions.”

Twitter kalder for tidlige valgresultater “misinformation”
The Verge:
“On Thursday, Twitter announced a more detailed set of rules to combat misinformation ahead of the US election in November. Starting September 17th, the platform will label or remove tweets involving election rigging or premature election results, treating those categories as particularly likely to cause immediate harm.”
Twitter har lanceret ny optælling af retweet-citater
Social Media Today:
“As we reported last week, back in May, Twitter launched a new, separate listing of ‘Retweets’ and ‘Retweets with Comment’ within the tweet detail, in order to provide more transparency on engagement. Shortly after that, Twitter then changed the wording of the main ‘Retweets’ listing to the more inclusive ‘Retweets and comments’, making it easier for users to understand what this count incorporated.”

What’s New in Publishing:
“For example, one study (of billions of search results) found that over a quarter of Google searchers click on the first organic result. This ranking at position #1 achieves a click rate that is more than 10x higher than a ranking at position #10.
Since the average CTR falls sharply after position #1, the biggest, absolute leap in CTR is made with a ranking improvement from #2 to #1.”
Forstå konflikten mellem Australien og tech-firmaerne
En vigtig artikel.
Journalisten:
Australien.”
↓
Journalisten.dk lukker for debatten
Journalisten:
CNN:
“The Washington Post, Bloomberg, and Wired have each announced investments in gaming coverage in recent months. These publications and others are looking to capitalize on this booming industry with the same rigor they’ve shown in reporting on Hollywood and Silicon Valley. The plan is to investigate the business and culture of the gaming industry with stories that appeal to gamers and non-gamers alike. “
Få danskere vil betale for nyheder
MediaWatch:

The Athletic når 1 million abonnenter
CNBC:
“Hansmann said in the first two weeks after sports shut down in March, there were days when fewer than 100 people were signing up for The Athletic, compared with “thousands” normally. The Athletic announced in early June it had laid off 8% of its staff and mandated across-the-company pay cuts.
Three months later, The Athletic is typically adding more subscribers per day than ever and has reached the 1 million subscriber milestone, co-founder Alex Mather said.”
Politico Europe tjener penge – og vil vokse videre
Digiday:
“Politico Europe hit its first year of profitability before going into 2020. Now, it plans to grow revenue between 9% and 11% this year, thanks to enhancing its subscription platform, Politico Pro Intelligence.”
Digiday:
“Both founded in Israel in the mid-2000s, fiercely competitive Taboola and Outbrain had long duked it out for the most lucrative publisher deals, cutting large — seemingly uneconomic — guarantee and revenue share deals in order to gain exclusive partnerships. It was common for publishers to switch between Outbrain and Taboola once their contracts were up. One publishing executive described the negotiations as “like home insurance, you switch every two years.” “

Annoncebranchen: Nu lytter Apple omsider
Digiday:
““It’s complicated” is probably the best way to describe Apple’s relationship with the advertising industry in recent years. Apple itself is a much-lauded marketer that leans on glitzy advertising to sell its smartphones and services. It recognizes developers rely on advertising in order to keep its App Store thriving with free-to-download apps.”
Del 4: Udvikling og tech
Her får du et kig på nogle af ugens historier indenfor den digitale udvikling og teknologi, der enten direkte eller indirekte kan have betydning for medier/udgivere.
GPT-3-maskinen skriver artikel for The Guardian
The Guardian:
“We asked GPT-3, OpenAI’s powerful new language generator, to write an essay for us from scratch. The assignment? To convince us robots come in peace”

Wired:
“The company plans to launch new AI ethics services before the end of the year. Initially, Google will offer others advice on tasks such as spotting racial bias in computer vision systems, or developing ethical guidelines that govern AI projects. Longer term, the company may offer to audit customers’ AI systems for ethical integrity, and charge for ethics advice.”
Nu er Android 11 her
The Verge:
“Android 11 adds a variety of new features to Google’s mobile operating system, although as a whole, the update is focused less on adding new functionality and more on making it easier to manage the myriad things your phone can already do.”
Manglende puls kan identificere deepfakes
VentureBeat:
“Existing deepfake detection models focus on traditional media forensics methods, like tracking unnatural eyelid movements or distortions at the edge of the face. The first study for detection of unique GAN fingerprints was introduced in 2018. But photoplethysmography (PPG) translates visual cues such as how blood flow causes slight changes in skin color into a human heartbeat.”
Guide til 5G-nettet
Computerworld:
